The Specialty Hospital of Washington focuses on long-term intensive medical care and is licensed as a Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH). Long Term Acute Care Hospitals are a preferred, cost effective alternative to long term stays in typical general hospital intensive care units. The Specialty Hospital of Washington was the first of this type to be established in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

SHW is a specialty care hospital with 24 hour In-House Physician, Nursing and Respiratory Therapy coverage. A very individualized treatment program is developed for each patient to maximize the potential for recovery.

An additional unique feature of our facilities is that we feature private and semi-private rooms, which is often beneficial in promoting the healing process.

Specialty Hospital of Washington is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (TJC). The Joint Commission accredits over 19,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Organizations deemed to be in compliance with the applicable standards are awarded the decision of Accreditation.

SHW is also CAP Accredited. CAP is an internationally recognized program and the only one of its kind that utilizes teams of practicing laboratory professionals as inspectors.
