WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 5, 2006)

The Specialty Hospital of Washington (SHW) announces its purchase of a brand new group of Respironics respiratory medical devices to advance and expand its inpatient program.

This is a new and exciting change for our inpatient program, says Dr. Manisha Singal, VP of Medical Affairs. Not only will it provide our current patients with more advanced services, but will also open our hospital to new patients who require acute pulmonary treatment.

SHW is proud to use Respironics line of equipment. Respironics is a leading developer, manufacturer and distributor of innovative products and programs that serve the global sleep and respiratory market. By adopting their Total Ventilation Solutions program to treat, monitor and manage respiratory-impaired patients, SHW now has access to the newest BiPAP Vision Noninvasive Ventilatory Support System, the Esprit Critical Care Ventilator, and pulse oximeters.

SHW specializes in long-term intensive and critical care and is licensed as a Long-term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH). SHW's medical staff includes qualified intensivists, pulmonologists, cardiologists and many other specialists. All of the respiratory therapy staff is Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified and the hospital provides in-house physician coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

SHW is committed to serving the community by providing the most comprehensive, cost-effective alternative to long-term stays in an intensive care or critical care general acute care hospital. As an LTACH specializing in extended acute care, SHW's services and programs are established to provide an intensive level of patient care for those requiring a longer length of stay.

With our new equipment and dedicated staff, we are looking forward to serving those who need us most "our patients and their families," says Jim Gerrity, Administrator for the Specialty Hospital of Washington and Nursing Center.

The Specialty Hospital of Washington is located at 700 Constitution Ave. NE, and is owned and operated by Specialty Hospitals of America, LLC, a health care management corporation based in Portsmouth, N.H.
