SHW-Hadley Celebrates National Doctor’s Day

Washington, DC April 10 2013: The Specialty Hospital of Washington-Hadley Campus honored physicians at this year’s National Doctor’s Day luncheon.

Every year March 30th is recognized as National Doctor’s Day and SHW-Hadley saluted its excellent Medical Staff, which consist of 95 dedicated physicians representing 20 medical and surgical specialties.

Also on this special day, the hospital rededicated its Chapel. The Chapel Rededication ceremony was incorporated into this year’s Doctor’s day festivities on a two-folded message. The physicians contributed to the remodeling of the chapel that was originally dedicated in September 30, 1986 by the family of Dr. Henry Hadley in honor of his wife Anna V. Hadley. Secondly, the chapel’s rededication ties into the message that resonates throughout the halls of Hadley as a place of healing.

Hadley Skilled Nursing Center Receives Excellence Award from the Delmarva Foundation

Washington, DC March 13 2013: The Hadley Nursing Center of the Specialty Hospital of Washington recently received the Excellence Award for Pressure ulcer reduction from the Delmarva Foundation. The award recognizes individual nursing homes performance and positive outcomes in pressure ulcer reduction. The award demonstrates a home’s commitment to excellence and serves as a continuing reminder of quality improvement.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have included wound care as a quality measure for nursing homes. In the nursing center environment, the percent of high-risk residents who have pressure sores has been identified as one of its five long-stay quality measures. Utilization of this guideline by the Hadley Nursing Center’s clinical staff along with Dr. Robert Dennis and Dr. Edgar Potter, Medical Director, the team was able to identify that pressure ulcer prevalence can be influenced by nursing home care practices such as frequent scheduling of assessments for suspicious skin areas, observations on the environmental assessments of residents, and care practices related to how the nursing home manages clinical, psychosocial and nutritional complications. The Hadley Nursing Center reported a significant drop in the percentage of pressure ulcer reports and incidence of patients being transferred to a high level of care for the treatment of pressure ulcers.
